Here is the news that is very important but often overlooked in the immigration spectrum:

Why this is the news is good and relevant from the point of view EB provisions?
Because EB provisions (section 8001) were thrown out of S.1932 because of the differences between key players over the Patriot act. Now that this is out of the picture, at least there is one less thing to worry about.

We are a husband and wife, both filing.
My priority date is Oct 06 and my wife's will be July 1st. (or so.)
My wife's company is a large multinational and her job is secure. My company is small and not making oodles of money right now.
So I consider my wife's to be solid and slow and mine to be less solid but faster.
I predict that mine will get approved before hers and they'll drop hers. But because I simply do not trust USCIS to process them without a hitch, we're filing twice. Shotgun theory.
Our lawyers seem to concur. If our PDs were the same and our companies were similar, it probably wouldn't be worth filing twice.
My question is regarding the EADs and APs. I believe that I should file through her because they are more "solid" applications. I assume that the EAD/AP will be processed prior to the 485 and priority date does not affect them. Her job is more secure than mine and so her EAD would be too..

This is a very simple calculation. Following are the numbers before Oct -2006. These total to ~ 12K.
EB2-C - 3521
EB2-I - 9345
The dates will move further if more than 12K numbers are infused into the system. I would say that the dates should be in Oct - Nov 2006 range with these 12K numbers, having Nov as buffer as they may issue RFE's to folks.

H1 Visa renewal (with a new employer)...earlier H1 visa was stamped in Toronto.
I-140 pending at NSC since March 07
Category is Schedule A (now EB3)
I-485 pending at TSC, EAD and AP approved.
There was no communication between the consulate and my employer. I guess it was just luck.

Lou Dobbs, Leprosy, and Immigrants
In "Truth, Fiction and Lou Dobbs" by DAVID LEONHARDT writes about the latest controversy about Lou Dobb's "reporting" on immigration that came to light on a �60 Minutes� segment profiling Dobbs a few weeks ago. According to Leonhardt,
a �60 Minutes� producer came across a 2005 news report from Mr. Dobbs�s CNN program on contagious diseases. In the report, one of Mr. Dobbs�s correspondents said there had been 7,000 cases of leprosy in this country over the previous three years, far more than in the past. Hi all,
I am planning for a trip to india and get my first visa stamping done some time in may. My visa was approved in july 2007. Does anyone think that this issue will prolong till may? Or will all these database updates for the PIMS verification checks be complete by then? Any inputs will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I tried SR, Senator help, infopass without much help. 2 days ago when called, Texas POJ, one nice IO told me case is not yet assigned to officer, will send email, looks like worked this time. Having filed mine and spouse's AOS in May, honestly everyone these are not hard to file yourselves. If your employer is paying for the lawyer then great, but why not devote a couple hours and do it yourself, cut the lawyer out of the loop. I am sure we have all had bad experiences with lawyers, and heard about many others the chances are you will do a far better job since this really matters to you, you are just another number to the law office.

Drag employers and head hunters till the end. Once the deal is finalized and it is time to hire, then let them know that you have EAD. At that point no one would like to see the effort going into drain. Do not let it be the first point of filter.

The percentage of people here are a very small percentage of that 25%.
H1/L1 restrictions are not going to encourage american kids. It does not impact their thinking. Maths, science are tougher subjects for kids. Kids in India were pushed by their parents to study science in search for a good career. Kids here have a lot other avenues which are more attractive to a kid. Kids do not understand L1/H1. 90% of adult population here does not understand H1/L1. REstricting H1/L1 will not influence a kid to take up science and engineering.
I have news for you (and the certitude with which you make your claims here are laughable). Computer science graduation rates in US went up this year by 6-8%, because the visa caps since 2003 remained at 65000 instead of 195000 creating some demand here. I personally know kids who wanted to go to Computer science, but went for other areas like health care because of the lack of offshoring/H1 etc. If the crooked Indian offshorers and fly-by-night operators are not driving down the wages, more americans will go to computer science, as they would go for a career as MD or Pharmacist or lawyer (almost all those careers need at least 6-8 years of college). They also know that professional associations like AMA or APhA wouldn't allow importing foreign workers by corporations/hospitals on a scale that H1-bs are imported in IT area

A green-horn from TCS/INFY with a computer science degree and pretending to be an architect doesn't mean he is the best IT professional available in the market.

From what i gather, this idea was tried with lawmakers before.
But to change citizenship laws is far more difficult than changing the quota cap of a (GC) process.
Never-the-less, we should not give up.
Say, in the bargain for citizenship after 10 yrs of Legal & crime-free stay we get GC instead, still a deal.
Can we have a plan of action as a consensus?

People go by "how the wind flows" - when they just see a few of us stressing out they think they must not do anything - simply because they think wind is not blowing. Unless people believe in themselves and have the capabilities to make right choices and independent decisions, they will always be influenced by "negative flow". This is something we have always been facing in the community.
Every member and a guest must take these efforts seriously. Make your own wise judgement and not get influenced by negative flow. The negative community can pull you down big time, they have the capacity to destroy themselves and the entire community. Laziness seems to be the major cause for the negative energy and it will be interesting if people have any other excuses

I only caught part of a report on Lou Dobbs regarding Beckham's visa. He received an O-visa. The Department of State (http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1271.html) does not give the number of these visas issued every year. However, the reporter on Lou Dobbs (http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0707/13/ldt.01.html) claimed there were over 12,000 of those given out last year . Where did they get that number?
