So, I guess it all boils down to what is the legal status of somebody who has 485 pending, EAD, and AP? At that point you are no longer on H-1B. Is this status covered in the definition of a "U.S. worker"? ... Anybody?
As per Ron Gotcher, "Anyone with I-140 portability and an EAD is a "US worker" as that term is defined by the Department of Labor.".

For those who are wondering about medical exam for pregant spouse. I had medical exam done for my wife (and we are expecting). Doctor decided to take Blood and TB skin test. He also decided to do blood partision exam (which will tell whether you have particular immunization done or not as a child) since we didn't have immunization record. It costed $400 (includes lab fees etc) in IL. He wanted us to come back after 2 days for TB result and after one week for blood test result.

I know the rules of car buying and hence mentioned the word hypothetical - however, as I said earlier, I agree with your basic principle that we are liable for whatever we signed up for and if you look at my first post on this thread that is exactly what I suggested to punjabi77 i.e. Is renting an option?
If we strictly go by the purpose of this thread - yes, we are in agreement that punjabi77 should look at alternative ways of paying off his mortgage or just simply sell his asset with a ~20k loss.

As a hypothetical example (because vehicle prices always depreciate, so please ignore the reality), let's say you bought that Gas guzzling SUV at 50k and now suddenly after 2 years, due to whatever reason, you go and try to sell the same SUV to the same dealer and he quotes you 5k. Wouldn't you fault that dealer for selling you the same thing at 50k when the actual value of the same asset 2 year back was 5k (but he sold you at 50k and you have only paid back 10k in monthly installments until now). Who is to blame for that 35k deficit? You? Forget the monthly payments here and concentrate on the actual asset value.
You forgot that dealer is also making 5K for the SUV that he bought from manufacturer for $50,000. In the end everyone lost 35K. So dealer will loose multiples 35K based on how many SUV he has in his inventory. You might suggest he should go to the manufacturer ?

His RD - 05/2009 (Yes it is right, he applied his 485 in May 2009).

What action do we expect on our letters/faxes to Congressmen, besides a routine reply USCIS is used to. This is not the first time that somebody is bothering them in their leizurely work. If they have tons of filings all over their offices, how do you expect them to find your case out of them.

I just called CS of Vonage and asked them about 5k minute limit. They just laughed as I was not the first one to ask. They said for residential Vonage world plan there is no limit. those 5k applies to business . So rest assured and call India without any fear or limit. Unlimited !

I think having vonage is more than just about calling india and the calculated rate of a call per minute.
It gives the customer a home phone too. Remember not every household functions with only cell phones.
So for the convenience of having a home phone and being able to use that same phone for international calls too and getting just one flat rate bill for the whole thing is certainly of value to consumers.

In later part of 1990s EB categories were retrogressed for IN, CH by about 2 years. When AC21 law passed in 2000, it did two very important things. One recapture of about 216,000 EB visas and it removed country quota in each EB category if excess visas available, in that category. That means it enforced horizontal spill over. In simple example, consider Mexico which is most subscribing country. Lets assume in a fiscal year, 40,000 Mexican are eligible for EB2 visa(and no other citizens in EB2), and millions of Mexican eligible for EB3 and in family based categories, still DOS should issue 40,000 EB2 visa to Mexicans irrespective of how much demand in other categories. Because of tons of backlogs in 485 (between 2000 and 2004), particularly in EB3, DOS issued about 185000 (out of 216000) to EB3. That�s why EB3 was current between 2000 and 2004. Here is my take-
Foreclosing on your house is asolutely legal in the USA. You can even declare personal bankruptcy if you are in a real mess.
Ofcourse you need to evaluate the consequences of forclosing or declaring bankruptcy.
Wall Street executives are cahsing in millions of dollars in bonuses while filing for bankruptcy. This is how the system works in a capitalist country. There is no place for morals and ethics in capitalism. It's all about playing by the rules.
I had bought a house 2 years back thinking that i will sell it after couple of years and make money. I know many people might have done that. I didnt knwo that having a house will become a burden for me wrt moving to a different place in search of a job. I do see jobs in cities outside my state and was thinking of applying for those jobs. My problem is that if i sell my house, i will have to pay from my own pocket.
Having a house in this market has become a pain as it has made me immobile with respect to good job offers.
I was thinking that incase i find a job in a different state and cannot travel back home frequently and also renting is not a good option then should i leave the house to the bank for foreclosure?
Will this affect my GC process. I have no plans of buying a house in coming years.

Went for first interview on 4th Jan. Got confirmation email today 15th Jan 2008. Got this email about an hour back.

Please drop the following documents off at one of the VFS locations listed below.
1. Yellow pending letter
2. Passport
3. Envelope provided by the consulate (yellow, blue or green color)

Good luck to all those who are still awaiting confirmation. There is no use calling the VFS people, as they have no information. But it helps to know from other candidates on the time frame. So other people who have got the email, please post your experiences here for the benefit of all.

Heard the same from my lawyer, she has changed her tune completely in 2 days. Now she says that she is hearing the same thing and is possible. They are working through the weekend and has asked me to keep my blackberry on me at all times as they will be providing emails updates every 4 hours or if and when the said bulletin is released.
