And called the DOS customer help line to check if my H1B info is there in the PIMS system... what the lady told me is unless I submit my application at the US consulate abroad they cant check the status .. Let me know if others have different experience...

This whole PIMS thing becoming a pain for people like us  ... wish they did import all the petition info first before releasing this system to all the US missions abroad...

    Veeru123,
What number did you call DOS at? I am also going to India and want to make sure my info is there in PIMS database.

    Thanks in advance.

The real message in this thread is that you should check what is required by the countries you intend to transit BEFORE you buy your ticket.

It seems to me that an individual should take responsibility for his own actions rather than trying to blame a particular country for a long established requirement for a transit visa.

How is your experience with Lingo customer service. Last year, I tried to switch to Lingo and the lady at customer service is very rude. She is so tired to answer questions and asked me to get all from website. I stopped switching to them.

This is true. Lingo customer service is bad. Now I am stuck with them for 2 years. Rep was rude. Talked to the supervisor. Even he was rude. Asked him to pass me on to his manager. He refused to directly transfer to his manager.

I am even thinking of paying $100 cancellation fee and get off their service.

I am happy that Vonage came up with a good plan.

Heard the same from my lawyer, she has changed her tune completely in 2 days. Now she says that she is hearing the same thing and is possible. They are working through the weekend and has asked me to keep my blackberry on me at all times as they will be providing emails updates every 4 hours or if and when the said bulletin is released.
What law firm is that looks like a good one. If possible please PM me the details

Near the start of his Nov. 4, 2003, program on CNN, Lou Dobbs said, One-third of the inmates now serving time in federal prisons come from some other country one-third. Later, he offered more details: Coming up, were going to take a further look at the impact of illegal aliens. And it is an expensive proposition, particularly in our nations prisons. Illegal aliens, those citizens noncitizens taking up a third of the cells in our federal penitentiaries.

He also said that illegal immigrants were an increasing part of Americas prison population.

Here are the facts, according to the Department of Justice:

In 2000, 27 percent of the inmates in federal prisons were noncitizens. Some of these noncitizens were illegal immigrants, and some were in this country legally. In 2001, this percentage dropped to 24 percent, and it continued dropping over the next four years, falling to 20 percent in 2005.

Bottom line: illegal immigrants make up significantly less than a third of the federal prison population, and the share has been falling in recent years.

The share of state prison inmates who are noncitizens is much lower. (This is largely because immigration violations themselves are federal crimes.) In 2000, 4.6 percent of inmates in state prisons were noncitizens. This number remained quite steady over the next five years, right around 4.6 percent.

Over all combining federal and state prisons 6.4 percent of the nations prisoners were noncitizens in 2005. This is down from 6.8 percent in 2000.

By comparison, 6.9 percent of the total United States population were noncitizens in 2003, according to the Census Bureau.

Anne Morrison Piehl, an economist at Rutgers, says there are a number of reasons that immigrants have a lower crime rate than the native-born population. (To read a paper by Ms. Piehl and Kristin Butcher on immigrants and crime, click here.)

For one thing, the consequences of being arrested can be enormous for illegal immigrants, which is an obvious deterrent to crime. For another, immigrants, as a group, arent typical of the population. The fact that they have picked up and moved to another country suggests that they have more ambition, and perhaps even more skill, than the average person. This could help explain why the United States, a nation of immigrants, is such an economic powerhouse.

Should your address showing up on your w2 and pay stub be matching with the address of your parent company that filed your LC for Permanent Residence? My parent company that filed for my GC is in MI and so my Labor was also filed from there and currently I am working in IL and have been filing tax return for the state of IL for the last 3 years. The addres that shows up on my pay stub and w2 is for the state of IL. As my I485 is already filed so would it matter at the time of adudication of I485 about this address issue?

    Any thots gurus!!

Not only the laptop but all your personal items such as purse, camera etc. BOYCOTT UK. These people are racist.

In my 10 year stay in the US, I have traveled through UK only once and I had promised to myself I will never fly through UK again. Apart from the Transit visa hassel, they do not allow you to carry a laptop in addition to your carry-on. Even if the airline allows you to carry laptop in addition to a carry-on, the obnoxious UK airport authority will force you to pack your laptop inside your carry-on.

    Boycott UK!!

We know the facts that USCIS didn't follow the FIFO. There is no point in speculation when we don't know what USCIS did or why they are not following the FIFO? Hope today we can get some light, if uscis rep wish to choose so. :)
Otherwise my quest will continue for answer :D

It is a oneway call for giving information on, "USCIS Receipting Delay - How Does This Affect You?" Perhaps they are going to repleat what they said on this on Oct 5 (i.e. mention nothing about applications not in the system, other than just to wait). What if USCIS guys mixed up "done" and "yet to be done" boxes. You will perhaps never find un-entered filings, unless someone checks manually each and every filing in each and every box.

Yup, you got it buddy......my point is more from a general perspective than any individual scenarios........and sledge_hammer.....I am well aware of the risk associated with every investment - I do own a house and am paying monthly mortgage installments even when knowing that my investment is at least 100k under water :)......so I perfectly understand the risk that comes with any investment AND i am not blaming my lender for giving me money - as I said before, I could afford it then and I can afford it now!

I am against this 'nobody saw it coming' and 'too big to fail' business - banks very well knew what was coming and what would it's effect be; they still went ahead and irresponsibly gave out money to people who can't even afford an eat out at Mcdonalds!!!! Nobody should give any bail out to these guys - let them suffer for what they have done; if I am acting responsibly for my deeds (paying monthly installment because I signed up for it) the same should apply to these banks - they should be allowed to fail simply on the fact that they didn't make good business decisions!

From the punjabi's perspective, it is entirely punjabi's fault. Because he knew what he is getting into when he signed the contract. From the public perspective, the banks were stupid to loan money to everthing that moves and later asking for bailout money from tax payers. I think this is what RDB is trying to say.

Let it be 5000 min/pm. Still, 5000 min/month give about 2.7 hours per day. Talking 2.7 hours to India per 24 hours is unusual for many. I don't even get 30 minutes to talk. Even if we want to talk 2.7 hours you will be distrbing people in India, as they may be watching cricket or Tv serials.:)

Any way, this pan is simply superb compare to the situation before 10 years. Compare to many phone providers/cable compaines, vonage customer service is simply great, at least in my experience.

only down side of free 2.7 hrs/day is that the in-laws would now expect more calls from their US son in laws:) IV could you please hide this discussion from the inlaws in india?
