You may think that your contribution does not matter as long as others contribute. You may think that your contribution cannot change anything. ... If you think so, then you are wrong.
Your contribution is critical to this organization! You contribution is important to yourself--the legal immigrant!
Let me tell you what will happen if you don't contribute now:
With the number of people who have contributed stabilizing at a low level, IV's lobbying will be very very limited.
Then people who have contributed would feel disappointed.
Sooner or later, those people would withdraw their contribution.
Eventually IV will be closed.
From then on, you, who don't contribute now, will have no organization to speak up for you.
From then on, you will complain your situation in your company, seeing your peers get promoted while you get stuck in the same position because of your GC application.
...
Maybe, at that time, you will say to yourself, "if I have contributed to IV in that special year, if all people like me have contributed, we would have get our GCs. Then, maybe, my life would have been totally different..."
Let me also tell you what you can lose if you contribute.
Your immigration status will NOT become worse, if it cannot get better.
The only thing you will lose is about $200 or less if you contribute $20/month. It will happen this year or never! If it does not happen this year, you can always withdraw your subscription.
I believe many people would pay $20,000 to buy a GC if possible. If IV brings 1% chance to help pass the bill, $200 is a very fair price! Besides, I believe the opportunity cost for people who has no GCs is probably more than $20,000 a year, considering a potential promotion or a job change. For those people, don't you think $200 is a very reasonable price to buy yourself a 1% chance?
Besides, the chance that IV brings to us is much much higher than 1%!
You are all high skilled workers. You can do this math very well!
So come one! Make contribution now or you may have no chance to make this great deal!
Very well said. Thank you. Wish more people think like you.

It was great to attach faces to the IV handles...
I walked into situation room on Sunday night at 9 and was thrilled to find almost 30 - 40 ppl working hard on the preparations for the lobby day on monday. It was great to meet aman, paskal, pappu, logiclife, gsc999, nixstor, arun,..... (list is too long:D)
Soon I and mark teamed up to do the preps for the lobby day meetings. Monday was fun, with all the meetings with lawmakers with barely any time in between meetings - we were literally on the run, hopped on to taxi to save time and walk!! It was a chilling feeling when couple of times ppl on the hallway of Rayburn/Cannon stopped us and asked "R U lobbyist?":D
Dinner was a great. Hats of to Anu and Meenal for the menu... It was nice that we got the food all the way to situation room, so that we can have another go at it!!! Speeches by fellow IV-ers, lawyers and lawmakers at the dinner really primed us with lots of energy for rally on Tuesday. Ofcoz the wine helped too:D:D
The rally was just great. Even though I didn't have my breakfast, the energy of the people around me kept me going or was it the wine...
I had an opportunity to meet a great bunch of folks focussed on a common goal. After meeting 6 lawmakers and seeing the enthusiastic members who drive this organization. I am confident success is around the corner:D

I got the CPO email just now.. i'm not sure if it's because of the SR that my wife opened on Friday evening or it just happened without that.. but anyways it's a relief now.. i also see a lot of people getting cpo emails today.. btw, just curious, does the cpo stage come before "approved" status or after it?
now hope that i receive the card in time.. will post about its validity and start date once i receive it. (i'll be current for the month of September as my pd is july 06)
good luck to others who are waiting and hope that they get cpos soon
Dont worry, once you got CPO mails..normally you should receive the card in/after 5-10 business days..Hopefully with 2yr EAD..as you are not current this mnth right..keep hope!!

...my online status changed with message..
On August 5, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we had registered this customer's new permanent resident status. Please follow any instructions on the notice. Your new permanent resident card should be mailed within 60 days following this registration or after you complete any ADIT processing referred to in the welcome notice, whichever is later. If you move before receiving your card, please call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.
During this step the formal decision (approved/denied) is written and the decision notice is mailed and/or emailed to the applicant/petitioner. You can use our current processing time to gauge when you can expect to receive a final decision
but no welcome email yet...
SR on Aug 4....
Guys....there are multiple different messages on the USCIS Online Case Status portal...but they all mean the same. Not everyone gets all the messages: -
Card Production Ordered / CPO
Mailed Notice Registering Status as New Permanent Resident Status
Welcome Email
All 3 emails/notices/updates mean the same - that YOU ARE GREENED and they have APPROVED YOUR GC/485.
For whatever reason, not everyone gets all the 3 notices/emails. Some only get one and others get any 2.
We only got the CPO update - but yesterday we also received the physical I-797 Notice of Registration as a New Permanent Resident. We never got any "Welcome E-mail"
These are the ways of USCIS...folks are unduly getting about this

I just spoke to someone at http://www.yourmaninindia.com/ and they informed me that Delhi doesn't issue Non-availability of birth record certificate.
Any other options?
Please check with your lawyer, According to my lawyer, a new BC with 07/2007 registeration date, accompanied by 2 affidavits from your parents/Uncles/Aunts should suffice.

This won't fly because the simplistic model for immigration bills is -
D(hispanic) + D(labor) + D(neutral) + R(business) + R(nativist) + R(neutral) < Enough votes to pass Congress
I agree, this is the way politics works most of the time. lobby for votes, etc.
But isn't it also their job to do what is in the best interest of the Nation. Everything isn't decided by lobbies.
Maybe we're approaching this the wrong way, in trying to build competing lobby. it needs a new approach. Congress should be convinced in a different way.
Lobby is for optional, nice to have things, which will not be generally missed if they fail.
Legal immigration is none of these and is almost mandatory. Imagine losing for eg. 200K EB3s. another 50K doctors.

Hello Gurus,
I have a question as follows. I was with an old company and transferred the H1 in the 9th year to the new company. I already had my Labor and I-140 approved with the old company (EB3-I Category).
After switching to this new company I had to start my PERM all over again as I missed the July 2007 boat and could not file for I-485. My new company is based in L.A.-California. I am already drawing my salary from new company. They only have office in L.A. I work for them from my home office in NJ. Today the company's attorney called & asked me that I needed to have L.A. residential address as it is required to be stated on the application. I have no intentions to move to L.A. in near future. I am in a fix now as to how to go about this. I will appreciate all you gurus and experts advice and also please advise me repercussions if any.
Please help.

Till early part of 2004 or latter part of 2003, most of the Indians applied EB3 very few applied EB2. After 2004, it was reverse. I doubt any one appled EB3 in 2005 0r 2006.
If EB3 stays continously in 2001 and EB2 in 2004 (there is 3 year difference in cutoff date between EB2 and EB3 now), the guys with EB3 PD 2002 and 2003 will convert to EB2 by applying new 140 to transfer PD. This flow will balance the cut-off dates. Eventually it will reach a common ground or a break-even point.
I doubt that people try to change from EB3 to EB2 , given the fact that they need get I140 approval which is taking more than 14 months and USCIS announced recently that, they are not bringing back I140 PP in the near future.

Thanks Andy for something authentic. What is VCO advisory? Does this advisory reset dates in VB?
The AILA memo says this:
We have been informed that USCIS HQ has instructed the NSC and TSC to reject employment based I-485 applications in the third preference Other Workers based on a memo sent by the DOSs VO to USCIS advising that as of June 6, 2007, there would be no further authorization of visa numbers in this category.
According to this the VO or VCO can advise CIS to stop asking for numbers.
Is this a violation of the law?
Of course not.
AILA is trying to establish a precedent by saying that only the VB is the one that should determine the visa availabulity.

A note of caution, please just share personal anecdotes. All formal lawmaker meeting minutes need to be forwarded directly to the IV lobby day event coordinators and IV core members only.
Let the people who missed the rally also miss the excellent chance of sharing our strategy and law maker information.
Also be mindful of addressing people by their real names. It is good that you can put names to IV handles but please protect their privacy, unless they themselves are ok sharing their names publically. You can always use PMs.
I hope you all understand.

"Year 2003 - EB2 faced little retrogression briefly for 4-5 months and
second trend of RIR denials and second trend of forcing EB3- NON RIR
filing. EB3 faced brief retrogression for 2 months. "
Bharat Premi please clarify
It is difficult for me to produce all "Proofs" at this point of time, perhaps if I dig my some of past CDs I may be able to bring some articles but it will be a hell of time. Anyway still trying to put some explanation. First of all you need to understand the difference between today's bulletin system and bulletin system prevalent around 1999-2003. I vaguely remember, mostly till 2002 mid only Mexico and Philipines and India were "oversubscribed" countries.INS played a very smart game with bulletins then as well but somehow there was no public cry like what we experienced during this july. I do not remember exactly but probably during almost whole 2003 and perhaps for some months during 2002 India was out from "Oversubscribed" category. Before that India was used to be "Current" almost all the time. Now during the time India compeltely disapperared from bulletins, we needed to solely depend upon the internal news about retrogression and most of the information I was used to get from immigration.com and murthy.com articles and many articles were talking about this EB2 and Eb3 retrogression.

My labor certification (Traditional EB-3) is stuck in BEC since last 5 years. It is completely beyond my understanding why it took so long for BEC to process my case. Now everyone is rejoicing USCIS's decision to accept all green card applications, but I am paralyzed with the fear of facing another huge backlog on I-485 applications. One government agency sits on our applications for years and another government agency throws us further back in the line to cover up its blunders and guess what who pays the price: WE RULE-ABIDING, LINE-WAITING FOLKS.
Even if I get my labor approval before September, I will be among the last persons to get labor certification in spite of being the one with the earliest priority date. Nothing would give me greater pleasure than suing DOL BEC at this time. We may not sue DOL on their inability to clear the backlogs, but we can definitely sue them in their utter disregard to FIFO procedures (mind that some people with priority dates in 2004, 2005 have already got their labor certifications, but some with priority dates in 2001, 2002 are still stuck). When I read on their web site that they have tried to maintain FIFO, it makes me feel like puking.
I am also disappointed with IV's attitude towards the backlog victims. I do not remember anything concrete done by IV to address the grievances of backlog victims. Now that they have won the battle with USCIS, will they have time to look at us?

I would like to extend thanks to all of those who shared their thoughts on this labor certification backlog ordeal. I was touched with nice words some of you bestowed on my situation.
The point I was trying to make was that we high skilled immigrants continuously have suffered from the misdeeds of Congress and government agencies. It started in 2001 when Congress passed an amnesty when people in illegal immigration status were given chances for EB Green Cards. If government wanted to legalize them, shouldnt Congress have created separate processing channel and also separate green card quotas for them? Why were we forced to share our share of green card quotas? Why did we have to undergo several years of grueling labor certification experience to make room for people who violated the immigration law?
Then there was a birth of so called Backlog Elimination Center (BEC). This agency should have been rightfully named as Backlog Creation Center. BEC spent several years not in adjudicating the labor certification cases, but in transferring paperwork and performing a circus called 45 Day Letter. When it finally started addressing the cases, it did with utter disregard to FIFO procedure. As of today, there are still thousands of cases stuck in BEC with priority dates of 2001 and 2002 (including mine). Though they have set the backlog elimination date to be September 2007, there are very strong chances that they wont. I think life would have better for all of us if no BEC was created in the first place and the labor certification process was left the old way.
The purpose of my earlier post was to draw attention to the severe injustices BEC has thrust on us. The passion and energy IV showed in dealing with the recent USCIS fiasco was commendable. If IV can channel some of that passion and energy in dealing with the BEC problems, we may get some breathing space outside this black hole called BEC.

1. Eliminate EAD & AP, let I485 receipt notice be sufficient for travel and employment authorization.
2. Restart H1B visa renewal by mail. Let there be added scrutiny while the application is processed. It atleast wont let people out of country for unknown time.

Great idea....all we need is a photo in the I-485 receipt and any employer can do a e-verify to check our status.

It is encouraging to know that your case is assigned to an officer that you raised an SR on Aug 3rd. An SR was raised for me on Aug 3rd as well and the customer service rep mentioned that my case is also assigned to an officer...
So, Will Aug 18th be "the day" to look for ?? :D
Good luck to you and let us keep all of our friends posted on the same
Cheers
That would seem to be true. I am hoping that our cases will be approved even before that. I have exhausted everything that I can do except for Ombudsman - which I want to keep as last resort.
