The number of cases approved during 2002-2005 was at least 2-3 times what was being approved now(when recapture was in force)... improving efficiency will not give us any more visas... if there are 100k waiting for a GC they will still keep waiting no matter how efficient USCIS is. The fact of the matter is that they can only approve 3k per category per country. recaptured visas are free of country and category caps. It will not cause divisions or issues and will help unite everyone behind one cause. Other short term issues dont help(multiyear EADs or APs and such)...they just prolong the pain and drain money every year. The queue can only be reduced, by time or attrition or more output... we can all agree which is better.

Received our approval notices in the mail today. Infact, our immigration attorney received them first. No emails, no SMS, no SRs. Online status still shows "Initial Review".
Its been almost 10 years to the date. I wish all my friends on IV good luck and hang in there.
Along the journey, IV has provided a lot of help & support and I will certainly be sticking around to help in whatever way I can.

I am from Chinese community and registered IV just a couple of week ago. There was no email message to me regarding this movement, and some other registerd users may encounter the same situation. You may need to resend them. Only when I opened IV website yesterday did I know this recurring program and current situation. I am assuming IV is the only group who are pushing to get the I-485 relief for high skilled workers with advanced degree. There are MANY MANY Chinese in the same situation but I guess there might not have so many Chinese in IV. IV core group may think of some better way to reach more Chinese or other communities. Basically, we are on the same boat for the same direction. Better to concentrate all resources to reach the same goal. I would suggest IV to setup a seperate Chinese (or Hispanic) contribution page to diverse the culture background of IV members.

Why is Atlanta processing PERM applications so slowly versus Chicago? Is this always the case? Do they always process at such a slow pace? It is really frustrating when people filing their labor from Chicago are getting approvals in not more than a month people from Atlanta are waiting for 3-4-5 months and even longer. What is wrong?

From recent statements from Mr. Bush and Mr. Frist, I am assuming we can say "CIR is officially dead".
Does that make pushing for SKIL "easier"? (I know there is a tight schedule before the election etc., but worth trying?.... I guess we will hear more about this from IV admins on Sunday's conf. call).

He contended that members of both parties are moving toward the House position that the nation's estimated 12 million illegal immigrants should be offered no guarantees against being deported.
"I think the hearings have been an absolute success, and they've put us in a stronger position to craft a responsible bill that secures our borders and strictly enforces our immigration laws," Boehner said.........

Please give it a thought. What IV is doing right now for GC related issues would be more or less the same kind of agenda after most of the folks get GC and will be yelling at the processing times for Citizenship. I bet on it!
There is nothing wrong in thinking ahead of time and especially having the
process initiated and getting refined with the great folks we have here(ignore the ugly stupids who cannot understand the intent of this thread)

1. Eliminate EAD & AP, let I485 receipt notice be sufficient for travel and employment authorization.
2. Restart H1B visa renewal by mail. Let there be added scrutiny while the application is processed. It atleast wont let people out of country for unknown time.
